How to Use Tavo: A Feature Guide
Everything you need to actually use Tavo, feature by feature. If you're looking for definitions of specific stats rather than how to use the platform itself, check the Stats Glossary instead.
Library
Library is your team's home base for match footage. It's a simple list view: each match shows its date, opponent, title (e.g., "MLK Kickoff – NPJ Portland"), duration, and the team name. An "Upload game" button sits at the top for adding new footage. A view toggle in the top-right switches between a card layout and a compact list layout.
Use this for: finding and opening any past match, or uploading a new one.
Playlists
Playlists are curated collections of individual tagged moments — not full matches, but specific clips pulled from across one or more matches. Each playlist shows how many "moments" it contains (e.g., "Emily clips · 10 moments"). Two tabs split your view: My Playlists and Shared With Me, so teammates or coaches can share a curated set with you directly.
Opening a playlist puts you in a video player with a Playlist Moments panel alongside it, listing each clip with the player, action type (e.g., "Attack · Kill" or "Serve · Ace"), and timestamp. You can filter the moments shown by All Actions, All Players, or by specific Matches.
Use this for: building a focused clip collection around a specific player, action type, or theme — e.g., every kill a specific hitter had this season, or every ace anyone on the team served.
Mentions
Mentions is a feedback and communication feature — coaches (or teammates) can leave a timestamped note tagged directly to a specific player on a specific clip. In the demo, a coach's notes to a player looked like: "Your receives were excellent this match. Keep it up!" or "Good wind up and timing — the power will come automatically," each one tied to an exact moment in a match and attributed to whoever wrote it.
Two tabs organize the view: Tagged In (mentions where you're the one being addressed) and Created by Me (notes you've left for others).
Use this for: giving or receiving specific, clip-anchored feedback — replacing a generic "good game" with a note tied to the exact play it's about.
Highlight Studio
This is where auto-generated highlight reels get built. Two entry points:
Create quick highlight (1 match) — a fast, single-match version.
Create highlight reel — the full builder, which can pull from multiple matches or an existing playlist.
The build flow works like this:
Choose matches — select one or more matches (or a playlist) as the source footage.
Build your highlight — filter by Player (a specific player or "All Players") and Clip Length (e.g., "Standard"). Below that, moments are organized into four categories — Attacks, Serves, Digs, Blocks — each broken into Kills, Standard, Errors, plus a Smart Picks option that auto-selects a mix for you. Check the boxes for whichever categories you want included.
Continue through to generate the reel.
Finished reels land in a Past Highlights gallery on the main Highlight Studio page, each labeled with the match, player number, the action types included (e.g., "ACE+ATTACK"), length ("Standard"/"Short"), duration, and moment count.
Use this for: building a shareable highlight video — for a team recap, a specific player's reel, or a recruiting clip — without manually scrubbing through full match footage.
Stats Explorer
Stats Explorer is a multi-match aggregation tool — distinct from a single match's dashboard. Instead of looking at one match at a time, you select any combination of matches from your Library, and Tavo combines them into one custom stats view.
Once you've selected matches, three tabs organize the result:
Moments — a combined clip view across the selected matches.
Player Stats — a full per-player table (attack attempts/kills/errors, serve stats, dig stats, and more) aggregated across every match you selected.
Team Stats — the same category structure as a single match's dashboard (Summary, Rotations, Sideout, Attack, Serve & Pass, Defense, Players), but combined across matches — e.g., a combined 114–99 record across 2 matches rather than one match's score.
An Export button is available on the Player Stats table.
Use this for: season-to-date or multi-match reporting — answering "how has this player performed across our last 5 matches" rather than just one.
Roster
Roster has two distinct sections:
Player roster — every player, with jersey number, listed under a "Player" role badge.
Team members — non-player accounts with distinct roles: Parent, Coach, and Admin (a person can hold more than one role badge at once, e.g., "Coach" + "Admin").
An "Invite members" button at the top lets you add new people to either group.
Use this for: managing who's on the team and what access level they have — distinguishing players from parents, coaches, and admins.
Profile
Profile is a shareable, public-facing player page — built for exactly the recruiting use case we covered in What College Coaches Actually Look For in Stats. Each player's profile shows:
Bio — graduation class, jersey number, height, and position(s).
Stats — a compact summary (e.g., attack kills, aces, sideout%, attack error%, serve streak) with a selectable time range (the demo showed "Last 2 games").
My Best Game Highlight Reel — an embedded reel, presumably pulling from Highlight Studio.
A share icon in the top corner, for sending the profile out directly.
Use this for: giving a player (or their family) one clean, shareable link that pairs verified stats with real footage — exactly the pairing that recruiting profiles benefit from, and worth pointing to directly from the recruiting blog post.
